The UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the Use of ICT in Education recognizes innovative projects that leverage technology to enhance learning, teaching, and educational performance. Established in 2005 with support from the Kingdom of Bahrain, the prize awards $25,000, a medal, and a diploma to each of two laureates annually. 

2025 Theme: "Preparing learners and teachers for the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence." This theme emphasizes cultivating critical AI literacy among educators and students, encompassing technical understanding and ethical awareness. 

Eligibility Criteria:

Open to individuals, institutions, non-governmental organizations, or other entities.

Projects must be relevant to the year's theme and have been operational for at least one year.

Projects should not be affiliated with or receive funding from UNESCO.

Projects should be public and free of charge. 

Selection Criteria:

Integrated approach to AI, combining technical understanding with ethical reflection.

Alignment with sound pedagogical principles.

Promotion of inclusive learning opportunities.

Demonstrated evidence of progress and impact.

Potential for replicability and scalability. 


Nomination Process: Applications must be nominated by either the National Commission of a UNESCO Member State or an NGO in official partnership with UNESCO. Self-nominations are not accepted. Applicants are encouraged to contact the relevant National Commission or NGO ahead of the application process. 

Deadline: March 28, 2025 (midnight, GMT +1).
