The Generation Connect Young Leadership Programme (GCYLP) is an initiative by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in collaboration with Huawei, designed to engage, empower, and inspire young digital leaders and changemakers. The program supports young visionaries worldwide who propose innovative, community-driven projects aimed at fostering a more inclusive and empowered digital future. 

Key Features of GCYLP:

Mentorship and Training: Participants receive virtual mentorship and leadership training sessions from ITU and Huawei, equipping them with the skills needed to implement their digital development projects effectively. 

Global Development Week: Fellows participate in an in-person global Development Week, providing opportunities for networking, learning, and collaboration. For instance, the inaugural cohort completed their Development Week in Switzerland, engaging in activities such as leadership discussions and visits to institutions like Geneva University and Huawei Switzerland. 

Financial Support: Each of the 30 selected fellows receives an initial grant of USD 5,000 to implement their chosen digital development project. The most impactful projects at the end of the year are awarded an additional USD 5,000 to scale up their initiatives. 

Eligibility Criteria:

Aged between 18 and 28 years.

Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a tertiary education institution in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) or a demonstrably STEM-related academic program.

Proficient in English, as it is the main language of the program.

The program has garnered significant interest globally. The inaugural cohort, selected from a pool of 5,249 applicants across over 200 countries, comprised 30 fellows from 28 countries spanning five continents. Their projects addressed diverse fields, including inclusive healthcare, innovative digital skills training, efficient energy storage, and the circular economy.

1. Confirm Eligibility:

7. Participate in Program Activities:

If selected, you'll engage in:
